Looking Good In The Woods

Surprisingly, the most common question I get is, what’s your skincare routine? I also get asked about making vlogs! So, I sort of put that together. This is me, in a hotel in Denver, trying to hurry and occupy the girls with puppy dog pals and a cookie. It lasted about 5 minutes! But at least I got that🤣

If you’re like me, hunting and makeup don’t really go together. Hiking two miles in the hot sun to get to a tree stand plus a face full of makeup equals yuck. If you’re out in the woods without your regular amenities (running water, toilet, etc) it’s not always easy to look your best! I try to keep my skin feeling it’s best, so on these days, I don’t have to put effort in.

Lots of water and rest are probably the best tips, but I know nothing of those! No sleep and coffee!! But really, those are what’s best for your skin. Next, don’t wear makeup as much as possible. The more you don’t wear makeup, the better your skin will look! Try a makeup detox for a month and see what it does. Also, if my face/under my eyes is looking particularly tired, I take an ice cube and rub it around my face and trouble areas until it’s melted before I start my routine!

Once or twice a month I use a tanning mousse/foam for my face. It helps give a little more color to my skin. My face is usually a few shades lighter than the rest of my body, and this evens it out. This is an awesome product if you want a little color for a few weeks and don’t want to have to wear makeup!

The first product I use everyday is face wash! This is an anti-aging face wash that makes my skin really soft after using it. It’s super gentle, and I love to apply it with my Clarisonic brush! I’ve actually used Mary Kay Timewise face wash and moisturizer since I was in middle school. The bottle looks a little different than back then, but it still works the same!

Next, I use something to exfoliate my face! I use one of these every other day. Every day might be a little too much for your face. Most of the days I use the microdermabrasion (the pore minimizer I use later in the process), but once a week I use the peel face! I notice when I stop using these, the color in my face turns more pale/grey. They give my face a nice soft feel and a nice colorful tone. I love to exfoliate my whole body to give it a nice color.

Next, I use a toner! What I put in the picture isn’t made to be used as a toner, but rose is an awesome toner. This is a cleansing oil with rose in it, but it works just like my regular toner and also has antibacterial properties. Usually I use rose water, and it works amazing for this step!

Next, I use this! This is the second part of the microdermabrasion, but I use this everyday. The microdermabrasion or peel are so harsh on your face, this helps to give your skin moisturizer and healing after! It makes my skin so soft.

Next, moisturize! First, in the morning, is the Mary Kay Timewise. I’m pretty sure they’ve had this line FOREVER. I’ve always had super sensitive and dry skin (especially now that we live in Colorado). Georgia was a dream! The humidity was great for my skin, but now we’re back to some serious dry skin. These have worked for both locations though. At night I use Merle Norman anti-aging complex for this step. I tried it in one of those sample sets back in 2013, and got hooked. I might have passed out when they rang up my bill $$$, but I’m addicted to it. It also lasts for over 6 months for me, so in the end it’s not that bad.

Next is the eye cream! The regular moisturizers can burn if you use them around your eyes. I pat these around and under my eyes for my final moisturizing touch.

For the final step I exfoliate and moisturize my lips! I used to use a lip exfoliator from Sara Happ, but last year my sister had me try this out and I’m hooked. It helps give my lips more natural color! And moisturizes them for hours even in the wind. Cleanse, exfoliate, tone, and moisturize! There you go🙌🏼🙌🏼

When I’m out in the woods camping, the process is slightly simpler. I use these every morning and night along with my face and eye moisturizer! I’ve always used Walmart’s brand and they are awesome. I also braid my hair or use foam rollers for some easy curls! You can look put together in the wilderness, and it only takes a minute!

My last tips are to try to use natural light for pictures. The brighter the light, the better! Also, if you want a little something more, mascara or individual lashes are the best way to make yourself look better for photographs with minimal effort! It’s about the memories hunting, fishing, hiking, or whatever you love to do, but sometimes you just want to look your best for these forever memories (especially in photographs).

This may seem like a lot, but it only takes a couple minutes in the morning and at night! It is *almost* effortless, so you can look your best in the skin God gave you!
